The Grind explores the dark and sometimes explosive world of running an East End nightclub.

Vince (Freddie Connor) is a nightclub manager and having fought his way to his dream life he is determined to stay there.  When his best friend Bobby (Gordon Alexander) arrives owing money to Vince’s crime-connected boss, his life takes a dramatic turn for the worse.  Loyalties are tested and friendships are pushed to their limits.

‘The Grind’ features a commanding ensemble cast including Jamie Foreman (Inkheart, Oliver Twist, Layer Cake), Danny John Jules (Red Dwarf, Blade II, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Zoe Tapper (Stage Beauty, Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky) and Kellie Shirley.

The release date for the film is early 2011.

Zoe TapperZoë played Nell Gwynn in the critically acclaimed film ‘Stage Beauty’, directed by Richard Eyre. She featured in the BBC’s ‘The Private Life of Samuel Pepys’, and in ‘These Foolish Things’ opposite Lauren Bacall, Angelica houston and Terence Stamp. Zoë was nominated for Best Newcomer for role in ‘Twenty-thousand Streets Under the Sky’ at the RTS Awards. Most recently Zoë stared as Desdemona in 'Othello' at Shakespeare's Globe in London.

Jaime ForemanJamie Foreman is best known for his roles as Duke in Layer Cake (2004) and Bill Sikes in Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist (2005). He played opposite Ray Winstone and Kathy Burke in Gary Oldman's Nil by Mouth and also featured in Elizabeth, Gangster No. 1 and Sleepy Hollow. He appeared in the 2006 Doctor Who episode "The Idiot's Lantern". He also featured as a racist taxi driver in The Football Factory. Foreman also played Basta in the film Inkheart.

Danny John-JulesDanny John-Jules created the role of 'Cat' in the sci-fi comedy series ‘Red Dwarf’ and also created the role of 'Barrington' in the BBC1 children's drama, ‘Maid Marian And Her Merry Men’. His feature film credits include “Blade 2”, “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “The Tournament”

 

Freddie ConnorFreddie Connor has worked extensively in both film and theatre. He played one of the central characters in the award winning and critically acclaimed feature film 'Gypo' opposite Pauline McLynn and Paul McGann and has recently finished filming one of the lead roles in “Life Lottery" directed by Theresa Corrao (producer of the Harry Potter films)

Gordon AlexanderGordon Alexander recently played the lead opposite Tamer Hassan and Tom Hardy in 'Sucker Punch'. He also starred alongside Kevin McKidd and Dominic Monaghan in Richard Jobson's 'The Purifiers'. A superb martial artist, Gordon has worked with some of Hong Kong's finest, including Jackie Chan.

 

Kellie ShirleyKellie Shirley's credits include Mabel Mercer in ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’, Tina in ‘Wimbledon’ and most recently in Roger Michel’s ‘Venus’. Kellie’s television work includes ‘Twenty-thousand Streets Under the Sky’, ‘Happy Slapz’, ‘Sex, Footballers and Video Tape’, and ‘The Office’. Kellie also played Carly Wicks in BBC 1’s ‘Eastenders’.

Rishi Opel - Writer & Director
‘The Grind’ is Rishi’s feature film directorial debut having worked on numerous productions for both the big and small screen. His previous work as a Cinematographer includes the controversial thriller ‘Camp X-Ray: Ghosts of Guantánamo Bay’. “The Grind” is based on Rishi’s successful short film ‘Young, Armed And Dangerous’ which was screened at the Portobello Fim Festival

Stephen Follows – Producer
Stephen is an award-wining producer whose work has showcased on television as well as at numerous film festivals worldwide. His most recent project, ‘Space Chase’, was shortlisted in the top ten the 2006 Cannes short film market. 'Space Chase' has been screened at over thirty international film festivals and has been picked up by American distributor ‘Big Film Shorts’. Stephen currently is a member of the BBC Film Network’s industry panel and acts as a Consultant Producer on many short films.

Freddie Connor – Producer
‘The Grind’ is Freddie’s debut feature as producer. Freddie has had extensive experience within the U.K. independent film industry. He started his career in front of the camera and he also played one of the main supporting roles in the internationally acclaimed and award winning feature film "Gypo," released by Lions Gate Films in 2007.

Chee Keong Cheung - Executive Producer
Chee has produced and directed award winning short films, documentaries and music videos. Chee's career to date has been followed closely by the media, including articles in The Times, The Guardian, The Evening Post, and the Financial Mail on Sunday and established UK film magazine Empire. One of Chee’s current feature projects is ‘Sabina’ staring Douglas Henshall, Armin Mueller-Stahl and Simon Callow and Executive Produced by Martin Scorsese.

Elaine Wickham - Co-Producer
Elaine’s Wickham's projects include the critically-acclaimed and award-wining ‘Gypo’. The film was picked up by Lionsgate after its first screening and went on to be shown at film festivals worldwide. ‘Gypo’ won the ‘Best Achievement in Production’ at the 2005 British Independent Film Awards. Elaine’s current projects include “Ruby Blue” staring Bob Hoskins, due for release in mid-2007 and ‘My Mother’, her directorial debut.

“Sway” – Featuring Music By & Cameo Role
Sway is a British-born rapper who has taken the UK rap scene by storm. He won the MOBO award for "Best UK Hip-Hop Act" in 2005, beating multi-million selling US stars 50 Cent and The Game. He was nominated again in the same category in 2006. In November 2006, Sway won a BET Hip-Hop Award for "Best UK Hip-Hop Act", beating the likes of Blak Twang, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal and Kano.
